| The KODAK DIGITAL SCIENCE Scanner family has captured a
reputation as industry leaders for feeding reliability and image quality.
In fact, more Kodak Scanners are in use at high-volume applications around
the world than any other brand. Now an exclusive set of accessories is
available to make operators even more productive and provide higher levels
of image quality automatically. As a result, images can flow to your
imaging system with less time and labour. |

|
|
| Now an operator can simply load the scanner, start it, and
let it run. The new Automatic Document Feeder does the rest. No nudging or
jogging is required, so the operator is free to prepare the next batch or
feed a second scanner. The automatic feeder will handle mixed document
batches to further improve operator productivity by reducing document
preparation time. The feeder can hold up to 300 or more sheets,
effectively doubling the capacity of the Semi-Automatic Document Feeder.
Additional pages can be added while feeding for continuous scanning.
Rollers snap out for easy replacement by an operator without using tools.

|
It's a fact of life: a staple, some tape, or dirt hiding in
a batch can sometimes cause pages to stick together. The result is an
overlap or double feed. If you catch it, you save yourself the time and
trouble of exception scanning and reinserting images into the batch.
The new Multi-Feed Detector monitors the thickness of each
document passing through the feeder. It's ideal for unattended scanning of
batches of uniform documents, such as forms, checks, or census surveys.
When turned on, it alerts the operator to an overlap for immediate
correction. You can also set it to suspend scanning so the offending
documents can be removed and re-fed mid-batch.
Your old equipment
upgrades easily. The Automatic Document Feeder and Multi-Feed Detector
accessories can be retrofitted in the field to several models of KODAK
DIGITAL SCIENCE Scanners and can be specified when ordering new scanners.
Either way, they can keep your scanners running at peak performance.

This board processes images before they are released to the
host workstation. The results include optimal image quality, faster system
performance, and better overall throughput. On-the-fly image correction
capabilities of the Document Image Manager include:
- Skew correction straightens the image without losing any edges to
preserve document integrity and image information.
- Border reduction limits the black area around documents to minimise
file size and toner or ink usage later.
- Similarly, automatic image cropping delivers the same benefits by
sensing the edges of images in batches of mixed-size documents.
- Editing is done in full grayscale, so characters are clearer and
lines appear smoother and less jagged.
- All processing takes place in hardware at full scanning speed, so it
does not slow your system down.

The Adaptive Threshold Processor is an accessory board that
provides true in-line image processing. No need for any post-image
processing. What's more, it operates at full scanning speed. In short,
you'll save time in image processing and receive crisp, clean image
quality.
The result: you'll get clean-looking images that are
easier to read. Document rescanning will be significantly reduced, along
with blabber costs. And, in many cases, compression is improved, so you'll
get smaller file sizes.
An exclusive algorithm built into the
Adaptive Threshold Processor dramatically improves the dynamic
thresholding capabilities of Kodak IMAGELINK Scanners. This eliminates the
need to sort documents by background colour, print density, and quality.
You can scan light and dark text documents intermixed, yet produce
uniform, outstanding images. |

- Improved image quality. Decreased image noise. Kodak's
state-of-the-art algorithm contains intelligent filters that
dramatically lower the amount of image noise and produce sharper,
cleaner scans. The filters also minimise artefacts on white-to-black and
black-to-white transitions. And less noise means image compression
algorithms can further compress images, lowering your storage space
requirements.
- Reduced document pre-sorting. The Adaptive Threshold Processor
virtually eliminates the need to sort mixed-batch documents by
automatically compensating for poor-contrast images. As a result, it
will save you time in document preparation, scanning, and retrieval. And
it will lead to higher productivity.
- In-line document processing. With the Adaptive Threshold Processor,
there's no post-processing work. All of the image processing is managed
within your scanner, saving you time and blabber There's no need to
operate additional image processing boards that may require complicated,
time-consuming integration steps.
- Supports documents of varying image quality. The proprietary Kodak
algorithm allows you to process poor-quality and low-contrast images,
such as carbonless multi-part forms, faxes, and multiple generation
copies, at high speeds, giving you greater flexibility.
- Seamless integration. This algorithm is contained on a single board.
It supports the same imaging parameters as Kodak scanners. So it can be
added into your environment with ease.
- Fast throughput of grayscale images. The adaptive threshold
algorithm processes 8-bit grayscale images, providing you with
sharper-looking images at full processing speed without post-processing.
- Simplex and duplex scanning. The use of dual Adaptive Threshold
Processors enables you to perform duplex scanning at full speed.
Applications The KODAK DIGITAL SCIENCE
Adaptive Threshold Processor is available for all KODAK IMAGELINK
Scanners. It is designed for a broad range of mid-to high-volume document
processing applications and minimises the need to adjust image processing
parameters for many input documents-even ones with attachments. For
example, medical claim forms are often submitted with cash register
receipts and prescription forms. The Adaptive Threshold Processor allows
you to scan them with the main document, so you don't have to worry about
pre-sorting.
