Can the ACI Server 5.5 be used with Ascent Capture 3.x or 4.x?

Ascent Capture Internet Server 5.0 was built and certified with Ascent Capture 5.0. However, when ACIS 5.0 is being installed as part of the upgrade of a site currently using Ascent Capture 3.x or 4.x, the central site will continue to accept batches that were created or processed at remote sites using Ascent Capture 3 or 4.  When the batches are uploaded to the central site, the batches are converted to 5.0 batches. However, until the remote site is upgraded, the remote site will not be able to download and synchronize with 5.0 batch classes, so remote sites should be upgraded as soon as possible.

Can I upgrade to version 5.5 from either version 3.x or version 4.x?

Yes. The version 5 installation program includes conversion utilities to make the upgrade from prior versions automatic and reliable.

Do the remote site(s) and the central site need to be on the same version of Ascent Capture?

Yes, except as noted above, both the central site and remote site(s) must be on the same version of Ascent Capture in order for the ACI Server to successfully synchronize batch information between sites.

Are batches secure when they are sent to the central site?

Yes, all images and data associated with a batch are encrypted with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) 3.0 before it is sent to the central site for additional processing.

Can the ACI Server run on various Web servers?

No, the ACI Server was designed and built to run as a Microsoft Internet Information Server application.

Can remote clients use different Web browsers?

No, the ACI Server uses Microsoft's ActiveX technology at the remote client and requires Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser for this foundational support.

Does ACI Server support both 40 and 128-bit encryption?

Yes, the ACI Server supports both 40- and 128-bit encryption.

Can batches be sent to the central site and then back out to another remote site for additional processing?

No, this is currently not supported with the ACI Server. Currently, the ACI Server provides support for remote site "Scan through Index" batch processing, and release to the central site.  Thus, all batch information must flow in one direction starting from the remote site and ending with the central site.

Can a central administrator control the batch process at remote sites?

Yes, the central administrator can select which batch operations will occur at the remote sites versus the central site. As an example, assume a batch is defined to have scan, forms processing, index and release as defined batch operations. The central administrator can then choose to have scanning and forms processing done at the remote site(s), while index and release are done at the central site. To make these selections, the administrator simply goes to the central administration web page that is provided with the ACI Server.

Can batch polling intervals be controlled at the central site?

Yes, the central administrator can set a common polling interval that all remote sites will follow. In addition, the administrator can restrict these settings so those remote sites cannot change these settings. To make these selections, the administrator simply goes to the central administration web page that is provided with the ACI Server.
